Outback Training Camp – Postponement

The Board of Gridiron Australia have decided to postpone the recently advertised and planned Outback Training Camp until a later date. This decision has been made to give the players around Australia a chance to represent their state in the 2018 AGL.

In addition, Gridiron Australia will be relaunching the Outback Outreach Program for players. These clinics will also be used to develop Australian coaches and to create a pathway to becoming involved in the Outback program.   It is planned that clinics will be running in early 2018.

Gridiron Australia are pleased to announce the appointment of the following coaches to the Australian Outback Men’s National Team Coaching Staff.

Coaches required for Men’s Outback Team

Coaches are required for the  Australian Outback Men’s National Team and applications are now open for the following positions:

  • Quarterback Coach

  • Wide Receivers Coach

  • Special Teams Coach

In addition, there will be limited “Shadow Coach” positions available.  These positions will give the successful coaches national team experience and the opportunity to learn and be part of the team.

GA to adopt USA football coaching accreditation framework

Gridiron Australia (GA), through its National Director Coaching Paul Manera, has conducted a full review of the existing coaching accreditation systems throughout its’ member states.  After this review, GA has decided to adopt the USA Football coaching accreditation framework. By adopting this framework GA can not only standardise the accreditation of coaches throughout Australia but also provide a career pathway for Australian coaches both here and overseas. GA is also working with the Australian Sports Commission on having the program recognised Nationally in conjunction with their Community Coaching Principles (previously known as level 1 general principles).

As part of the program GA will work with all existing accredited coaches on transitioning to the new framework. All coaches regardless of existing accreditation will be required to complete the USA Football level 1 youth tackle certification which focusses on the safety and wellbeing of players and covers the concept of Heads Up Football.

By becoming certified under the USA Football program, coaches will have ongoing access to the USA Football coaching resources portal as well as access to GA’s Coaching development HUDL site.

Gridiron Australia to use HeadSmart Sports Concussion Program

Gridiron Australia are very pleased to announce they will be trialling the FirstResponder Concussion App from HeadSmart Sports Concussion Programme at the upcoming 2017 Junior National Championships.

HeadSmart™ provides an end-to-end sports concussion solution for grassroots schools and clubs to the same standard as professional teams.The First Responder Concussion App is a very practical tool for the coaches and it helps to reduce the risk for both the player and the coach. Parents will be happy to know that the coaches will be equipped with the First Responder Concussion App.

National Coaching Director, Paul Manera, has introduced the program to Gridiron Australia whom are very happy to endorse this safety initiative.

All coaching staff that will be participating at the upcoming Junior National’s will have access to the HeadSmart™ FirstResponder Concussion App on their phones.  This will help them to determine, on the sidelines, if a player is concussed.

Apply to be an Assistant Coach of the Junior Outback


We now are seeking applications for Assistant Coaching Staff for the Junior Outback, Australia’s Junior Team.

The team will compete at the 2017 IFAF Oceania Qualifier, attempting to Qualify for the 2018 IFAF Gridiron World Championships. (host country yet to be confirmed).

The positions being recruited for include: Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, Positional Coach (Offense), and Positional Coach (Defense).

Applications close on Sunday the 26th of March 2017 (AEDST).

Outback Flag Gridiron Coaches – Applications Open

After an overwhelming response, Gridiron Australia are excited to be adding a National Flag Team to our International Program!

We now are seeking applications for Flag Gridiron Coaching Staff (Head Coach and Assistant) for our very first Australian Outback Men’s Flag Gridiron National Team.

The team will compete in the IFAF Oceania Flag World Championship qualifying match against New Zealand in July 2017 and if successful will then qualify for a place in the 2018 IFAF Flag Gridiron World Championships (host country yet to be confirmed).

HUDL for GA Member Coaches

Gridiron Australia is happy to announce the purchase of a HUDL Account for the sole development of Gridiron Australia Member Coaches. The account is titled Gridiron Australia Coaches Development. All member coaches of Gridiron Australia will gain Automatic membership to this Hudl account and they will be able to log in and watch coaching Lectures as well as on field demonstrations teaching Techniques and scheme.

The account will also be used to roll out Gridiron Australia combine Testing so that all states will be able to measure their athletes in a consistent format.

National Coaching Director, Paul Manera, is excited by this initiative. “It is a resource that Club, State and National Coaches will have access to”.

Hudl has traditionally been a tool that has been utilised to analyze game film but now it is also a leading tool to help Gridiron Australia in developing their coaches.
